Former Assistant to the President of Russia Vladislav Surkov was and remains the commander of the armed gang of Russian mercenaries who fought in the Donbass. This was stated by one of the activists of the Russian occupation of part of eastern Ukraine, first leader of the so-called "DNR" Alexander Borodai.

Responding to a question from a journalist about the role of Surkov in the Donbass Volunteer Union, the members of which took part in Russian aggression in the Donbass, Borodai stated that he was and is one of the commanders of this armed gang.

According to him, while holding the post of Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, nominally responsible for resolving the conflict in eastern Ukraine, Surkov held a high position in the illegal armed group.

After leaving the civil service, the ex-assistant of Vladimir Putin retained his status in the DVU, - Borodai assured.

"Therefore, all relations (between the DVU illegal armed formation and the former senior official of Putin's administration - OstroV) remain to this day and will be maintained regardless of whether Vladislav Surkov occupies a high public position or does not", - Borodai summed up.
