On March 3, former leader of the "DNR" Dmitry Trapeznikov was elected to the position of city manager of Elista, the capital of the Russian region of Kalmykia. This is reported by TASS.

It is noted that the election took place at an extraordinary session of the Elista City Council.

"Dmitry Trapeznikov, who served as head of the Elista administration from September 26, 2019, was elected to the post of city manager at an extraordinary session of the Elista city meeting", - the report said.

Dmitry Trapeznikov is a native of Krasnodar, who lived almost all his life in Donetsk in eastern Ukraine. He was functionary at FC Shakhtar, and since 2014, held senior positions in the self-proclaimed "DNR". After the assassination of head of the Donetsk separatists Alexander Zakharchenko, acted as head of the unrecognized "republic" for a short time.

In September 2019, Trapeznikov was appointed acting head of Elista. His candidacy for mayor was introduced by head of Kalmykia Batu Khasikov, but many experts believed that presidential adviser Vladislav Surkov was behind the appointment. Protests against the appointment of Trapeznikov began in Elista almost immediately.
