The European Union welcomes the approval of the "Steinmeier formula" and emphasizes that local elections in the territories of certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts (CADLO) should be held in accordance with Ukrainian legislation after the creation of appropriate conditions for security. This is said in a statement by the European Union, released today, October 3, during a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna, - Ukrinform reports.
"We once again point out that local elections in certain areas in the Donbass should be held within the framework of the legislation of Ukraine, after the creation of appropriate security conditions at the local level, in accordance with the relevant OSCE standards and under the supervision of the ODIHR, with full observance of the ODIHR election monitoring methodology and ensuring full access and freedom to monitor local elections", - the European Union noted.
The EU also reported that it looks forward to new meetings in the Normandy format, emphasizing its continued support for the work of the Normandy format, Trilateral Contact Group and OSCE in their efforts to facilitate the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
