A large-scale fire that caused detonation of unexploded ordnance and threatened the Joint Forces' positions of was extinguished in the Donetsk oblast on June 30. This is reported by the press center of the JF.

It is noted that the dry grass near the Shyrokyne and Berdianske villages caught fire. On Sunday morning, local residents of the village of Berdianske began to independently put out the fire, which threatened their homes and crops.

"Strong flames and acrid smoke approached the positions of our defenders. The greatest danger was borne by the detonation of unexploded shells left over from when the peaceful city began to be bombarded by the occupation forces of the Russian Federation", - the report said.

The military fought fire with their own forces: they extinguished the fire using everything that was on hand: branches, shovels.

"It is not known what caused the fire. Perhaps, arson. The scale is large: it is dry and there is a strong wind. They just put out the flames in one place - it appeared near and even stronger. It was difficult to put out the fire without special equipment, but we did not thing about it. We all quickly got together and put out the fire. It took about 8-10 hours to localize the fire", - soldier with the call sign "Sergeant" tells.

Head of the civil-military administration of Shyrokyne and Berdianske villages Oleh Prylypko noted that the grass and planting had burnt out, "it took the military and rescuers of the emergency service more than eight hours to put out such a big fire".

According to him, it is possible that the fire is a sabotage.
