The Law of Ukraine on termination of the treaty of friendship with Russia was published in the Holos Ukrainy parliamentary newspaper on December 11 and took effect today, - 112.ua reports.
The law on termination of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation assumes that the agreement will cease to be valid from April 1, 2019.
As previously reported, the treaty of friendship was signed in 1997 by President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma and Russian President Boris Yeltsin, it entered into force on April 1, 1999. The parties pledged to respect the territorial integrity and confirmed the inviolability borders, existing between them at the time of signing the treaty.
On December 10, President Petro Poroshenko signed law No. 0206 on termination of the treaty of friendship.
