The Principal Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, Alexander Hug, is traveling to eastern Ukraine from 26 to 29 August to assess the security situation along the contact line and its impact on civilians, the press service of the OSCE SMM reports.

He will also encourage all concerned to work towards normalization of the situation, and facilitate dialogue on the ground for the benefit of the civilians on both sides of the contact line. Hug will also join OSCE monitors as they patrol locations along the contact line.

It is noted that in Avdiivka Hug met with Ukrainian diplomats and told them about the work of SMM, as well as about the security situation in the east of Ukraine.

"He stressed the importance of cooperation and thanked Pavlo Klimkin (the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry - Ed.). Hug also noted the need to intensify efforts to protect Ukrainians on both sides of the contact line", - the OSCE SMM press service said.
