The east of Ukraine, affected by the military conflict, is becoming one of the most mined regions in the world. The UN Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Ursula Muller said this at the briefing on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine, - 112.ua reports.
"Eastern Ukraine is facing protection problems, it is rapidly becoming one of the most mined regions in the world, and if the problem is not resolved it will stop its development for many years to come. Demining and mine risk education are needed in all conflict-affected areas, especially along the contact line, including checkpoints on the de-facto border", - Muller said.
Earlier it was reported that the Ukrainian side is confident of the possibility of settling the conflict in the Donbass with the introduction of the UN peacekeeping mission.
