European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties and Home Affairs (LIBE) voted in favour of including Ukraine in the list of countries with which the EU introduces visa-free regime. The corresponding voting, according to Yevropeyskaya Pravda, was held at the Committee meeting on September 26th.

According to the report, 38 members of the committee voted for it and 4 against, one abstained. It is worth noting that the members of LIBE applauded the results of the voting.

The members of the Committee rejected all the amendments to the report by Maria Gabriel with a proposal to abolish visas for Ukrainians. Most of them were made by deputies, eurosceptics and were directed to the inhibition of visa-free regime.

The Committee also voted to start negotiations between the institutions regarding the visa-free regime for Ukraine.

It should be noted that the LIBE Committee plays a major role in the visa-free regime in the European Parliament.

Earlier it was reported that on September 29th the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs would consider the issue of visa-free regime with Ukraine, after which the issue would be submitted to the European Parliament. In addition, on October 11th the issue of granting Ukraine visa-free regime should be considered at the meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs Council of the European Union.
