“I have very bad premonitions about the impact of this war on the situation in Ukraine. America’s focus is more on the Middle East than on Ukraine, unfortunately. That is why you see that our diplomatic meetings, trilateral meetings, are constantly being postponed. And there is one reason — the war in Iran”, - said President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, while on a visit to the United Kingdom, in an interview with the BBC. In particular, this was an answer to the question of whether he is concerned that the conflict in the Middle East will distract attention from what is happening in Ukraine.

Answering a follow-up question about how the negotiation process is proceeding these days, Zelensky said: “President Trump is focused on Iran. The negotiating groups are talking among themselves. Our group speaks with the American side every day. I know that the Americans also speak with the russians every day”.

“The American side, because of this war in Iran, said it is ready to receive both sides in America. We confirmed our participation, but the russians are against a meeting in the U.S. Therefore, for now we are trying to focus on America, proposing a date and place. Ukraine will support any date and any place, but definitely not in russia”, - the Ukrainian president added.

Answering the question of whether Trump’s actions have made the world more dangerous, Zelensky said: “I will not have a fair answer to this. I try to speak objectively, not subjectively. Therefore, I believe that any split in NATO will weaken both sides”.

As reported, the publication Politico wrote that the Trump administration will continue to talk with russia in an attempt to achieve peace in Ukraine, as there is a longer-term strategic goal behind this — countering China.
