“Unfortunately, we have suffered another painful loss for our aviation family and the entire country. On March 9, 2026, on the Eastern direction, under conditions of significant air superiority of the enemy and powerful counteraction from enemy air defense systems, Colonel Oleksandr Dovhach — commander of the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade, Hero of Ukraine — was killed. He once again carried out a combat mission, unfortunately at the cost of his own life”, - the Air Forces of the AFU reported.
As noted in the Air Forces, Oleksandr Dovhach carried out hundreds of combat sorties, striking command posts, equipment, and enemy communication systems. He repeatedly provided cover for strike and bomber aviation and destroyed enemy drones and missiles.
“He fought for the Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Kherson oblasts, as well as Zmiinyi Island. He was the first to go into battle, took on the most risky missions, and inspired his subordinates to brave and decisive actions. The circumstances are being established. We express our deep condolences to his family and loved ones… Honor to the Hero!” - the Air Forces emphasized.
