“President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday that Ukraine will provide assistance to the United States in response to their request for help in combating Iranian drones in the Middle East”, - reports Reuters.
The United States asked for help in protecting its bases and soldiers in certain countries of the region, according to a source familiar with the matter, who said that Zelensky instructed his military to do so.
The Ukrainians will begin work “in the coming days”, the source said.
The publication recalled that during the war with russia, Ukraine developed highly effective means of shooting down the Iranian-designed kamikaze drone Shahed, which moscow has used throughout most of the four-year war.
Reuters also noted that in recent months Ukraine has already experienced a shortage of the American-made MIM-104 Patriot air defense systems — the only effective weapon in its arsenal for shooting down russian ballistic missiles. On Tuesday, Zelensky said that Ukraine would be open to exchanging interceptor drones for air defense missiles from allies in the Middle East that have their own stocks of Patriot.
