In 2025, Ukraine transported about 9.73 million tonnes of russian oil via the southern branch of the Druzhba oil pipeline. This is 14% less than in 2024. This was reported by the ExPro publication.

In addition, this is the lowest figure at least since 2014, and probably for the entire history of Ukraine’s independence since 1991.

According to the industry publication, the largest volume of russian oil in 2025 was supplied to Slovakia — almost 4.9 million tonnes, which is 24% more than in 2024.

Hungary also received 4.35 million tonnes of oil — 8% less than last year.

As a result of Ukraine’s sanctions against Lukoil in 2024, a new customer for transit services from September 9, 2024 became the Hungarian company MOL Nyrt., which purchases russian oil at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.

“Further declines in the volume of russian oil transit are linked to two factors. First, in March the Czech Republic completely stopped purchasing russian oil, as a result of which transit to the Czech Republic ceased in early March 2025”, - writes ExPro. “During 2025, supplies via Druzhba to the Czech Republic amounted to only 0.52 million tonnes — five times less than in 2024”.

In addition, the transit of russian oil remained unstable throughout the year, and in some months volumes fell to the lowest level in a decade.

Thus, in August 2025 transit amounted to only 430 thousand tonnes. Ukraine carried out strikes on oil pumping stations on the territory of russia, which affected the volumes of crude oil transportation from russia to Europe. The transit contract is valid until the end of 2029.

The transit of russian oil through Ukraine continues in 2026 as well, and according to newly appointed Ukrainian Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal, a halt to transit is not planned until the completion of the current contract.

On January 27 russia attacked the infrastructure of the Druzhba oil pipeline in the Lviv oblast, which likely led to a suspension of transit.
