The absence of any public reaction from vladimir putin to the plan for settling the war that was handed to him indicates not a diplomatic pause, but the absence of options advantageous for the kremlin. This was reported in a comment to OstroV political expert Andrii Horodnytskyi, PhD.

“Backstage negotiations continue. Everyone perfectly understands that putin is currently not ready for any agreements. He is not interested in this”, - the expert noted.

The political scientist explained that the kremlin continues to try to tie possible agreements to a personal dialogue with Donald Trump, using outdated or fabricated formulas.

“He hopes to reach an agreement with Trump — first on the basis of the so-called ‘Istanbul agreements’, then he began to push the topic of some kind of ‘Anchorage conditions’, about which no one really knows anything. But these ideas no longer interest anyone”, - Horodnytskyi emphasized.

In his opinion, the key reason for putin’s silence lies in the rapid deterioration of the situation inside russia.

“The situation in russia is changing, the economy is collapsing, there are no military successes. And when you have nothing to say, it is better to keep silent. He is silent and waiting”, - the expert noted.

The political scientist drew attention to the fact that over the past year the kremlin has failed to implement most of its military plans.

“Over a year, out of the declared plans to seize six Ukrainian cities, russia managed to seize only one. This is a catastrophe. How can you pressure Trump in such a situation? No way”, - he emphasized.

Horodnytskyi also recalled that Trump himself had previously publicly warned about large-scale consequences for russia.

“Trump spoke about this directly several months ago — about an economic catastrophe for russia. And this is gradually happening”, - the expert noted.

According to him, the arsenal of pressure tools of the kremlin has in fact been reduced to blackmail, but it no longer produces results either.

“Putin has no options except blackmail. But it no longer works”, - the political scientist said.

Separately, he mentioned nuclear threats, which were previously used as a key element of russian rhetoric.

“Nuclear threats will not work — with a probability of 99% he will simply be removed by his own people, like Maduro. Trust in him within the elites is rapidly falling”, - Horodnytskyi emphasized.
