“The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump considers Greenland part of the American security system and believes that the island should become part of the United States”, - White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said in an interview with CNN, Telegram channel “DW Glavnoe” reported on January 6.

“In order for the United States to ensure security in the Arctic region and protect and defend NATO’s interests, Greenland must become part of the United States”, - Miller said.

He also called the United States a “superpower”. “And under President Trump, we will behave like a superpower”, - he emphasized.

Miller avoided a direct answer to CNN’s host’s question about the possibility of annexing Greenland by force. Instead, he questioned the legitimacy of Denmark’s control over the island.

“The real question is: by what right did Denmark declare control over Greenland? What are their territorial claims based on? On what grounds is Greenland a colony of Denmark?” - Miller asked.

The report recalls that Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen urged Washington to stop issuing threats toward a “historic ally”. According to her, if the United States decides to annex Greenland, this would lead to the collapse of the security architecture that emerged after World War II.
