“This issue has not yet been resolved, but we have come significantly closer. It is a very complex issue, but I am confident that we will resolve it”, - U.S. President Donald Trump said at a joint press conference following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukrainska Pravda reports.
In response to a journalist’s comment that the position of the russians is that Ukraine must leave the entire territory of Donetsk oblast, Trump noted: “That is what they want. But this issue will still be worked through. I think we are moving in the right direction”.
Subsequently, Trump also expressed the opinion that the issue of Ukrainian territories seized by russia would be resolved “within the coming months”.
For his part, Zelensky also called the issue of Donbas “very complex”.
“You know our position. We must respect our law, our people, our territory … We have absolutely different positions here with the russians”, - he said.
“When we talk about a referendum, this could be one of the keys … There is an option to vote in parliament or to hold a referendum”, - Zelensky added.
