"Information on the situation in the Siversk area. Heavy fighting continues. The russian occupiers have a significant advantage in manpower and equipment and, despite substantial losses, continue active offensive actions. In order to preserve the lives of our soldiers and the combat capability of units, Ukrainian defenders have withdrawn from the settlement. During the battles for Siversk, the Defense Forces of Ukraine exhausted the enemy; every meter of the city cost the enemy a high price", - the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on the evening of December 23.
"The invaders were able to advance due to a significant numerical advantage and constant pressure by small assault groups in difficult weather conditions. The city remains under the fire control of our troops. The enemy located in the city are being struck, their logistics are being cut. Enemy units are being blocked to prevent their further advance", - the statement says.
"The Defense Forces continue to carry out combat missions in the Sloviansk direction. All measures are being taken to reduce the offensive potential of enemy units and formations", - the General Staff emphasizes.
