“We are, if not ‘on the brink’ of a complete power outage in the east of the country, then very close to it”, - a senior European diplomat said on condition of anonymity in a comment to The Washington Post.
The outlet’s experts note that it is almost impossible to accurately predict how many attacks russia would need to achieve its goal — a complete power outage in part of the country, including Kyiv — as this will depend on which targets are hit and whether Ukraine has backup resources for rapid restoration.
“Nevertheless, Ukraine, which has long suffered from energy attacks, is certainly in one of the worst positions. The bombardments have also weakened the already limited air defense capabilities, exposing serious vulnerabilities that could complicate the defense of the rest of the grid”, - the publication writes.
