“A decision on creating a buffer zone can be made only at the highest political level or by the people of Ukraine”, — this is how the president’s communications adviser Dmytro Lytvyn commented on the information from Le Monde claiming that Kyiv had agreed to the creation of a demilitarized buffer zone in Donbas.

“Mykhailo Podoliak (the publication refers to his words — OstroV) told them in general that different things can be discussed, but the question is always in the details of how it can work. Whether Ukraine agreed or did not agree — that can be decided only at the highest political level or by the people of Ukraine, and yesterday the president told journalists about this”, - Interfax-Ukraine quotes the President’s adviser as saying.

According to Lytvyn, journalists incorrectly interpreted Kyiv’s position during translation.

As reported, Le Monde, citing the adviser to the head of the Presidential Office Mykhailo Podoliak, wrote that Ukraine had allegedly agreed to U.S. conditions for creating a buffer zone in Donbas, but Kyiv believes that both armies must withdraw to ensure a safe buffer zone.
