“Today we held a constructive and in-depth conversation with the American team on one of the three documents we are currently working on — security guarantees. From America there were Marco Rubio, Pete Hegseth, Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, Generals Keane and Grynkewich, and Josh Gruenbaum. I also thank Mark Rutte, who represented NATO”, - president Zelensky reported on Telegram on December 11.
Zelensky noted that the Ukrainian side greatly values “...the active work of the American side at various levels — not only to end the war, but also to ensure Ukraine’s security and prevent a new invasion by russia”.
“This demonstrates the seriousness of America’s intentions and its focus on results. Security guarantees are one of the most important things for all further steps. We already had the negative experience of the Budapest Memorandum. Everyone remembers that, just as everyone remembers that russia violated all its other commitments more than once. Therefore, it is important now that this document on security guarantees contains concrete answers to what worries Ukrainians the most: what actions partners will take if russia decides to come again with its aggression. We agreed that the teams will work actively so that in the near future there will be a concrete understanding of the security guarantees”, - Zelensky noted.
