“I am now asking, and I am declaring this openly, for the U.S. to help me — together with our European colleagues, if needed — to ensure security for holding the elections. And then, within the next 60–90 days, Ukraine will be ready to hold presidential elections. I personally have the will and readiness for this”, - said President Volodymyr Zelensky, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
At the same time, the president noted that the question of elections in Ukraine depends primarily on Ukrainians, not on the people of other states.
Responding to U.S. president Trump's demand to hold elections in Ukraine despite martial law, Zelensky emphasized that he is ready for elections, but explained that holding them requires security and a legal framework to ensure their legitimacy.
“Next, since this is the direction things have taken, I ask that the MPs prepare legislative proposals on the possibility of amending the legal foundations and the election law during martial law”, - Zelensky added.
