The European Parliament renewed the sanctions against Russia. This information was confirmed by the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament Elmar Brok during the extened meeting Inof the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, - says the Zerkalo Nyedyeli.
"In Brussels some formal decision will be made which the Member States have already made but not yet announced. The decision to extend the sanctions and it is connected with the implementation of the Minsk agreements", - said Brock.
However, he said that the extension of the sanctions would be announced later for formal reasons. Brock said that EU sanctions would be lifted after the full implementation of the Minsk agreements.
"The most important sanctions, which were connected with the Ukrainian issue, will be immediately lifted when the Minsk agreements are fully fulfilled by both parties, including Ukraine, and the full territorial integrity and sovereignty of the borders of Ukraine are provided", - said the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament.
On the eve the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker called for the renewal of the EU sanctions against Russia. "In my opinion, it is necessary to renew sanctions for another period of six months", - said Juncker.
Sanctions against Russia were introduced by the United States, the European Union and some other countries (Australia, Japan, Canada, Norway and so on) in several stages in 2014. After the annexation of Crimea, the US and EU imposed personal sanctions against politicians and other citizens of Russia and Ukraine, who were responsible for undermining the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Sanctions of higher level, namely economic, were introduced in the summer of 2014 (a number of economic sanctions were imposed by the US in the spring), after Russia's aggression in the east of Ukraine, Donbass.
