“Donbas has always been formed — both in the first stage of recovery after the First World War and after the Great Patriotic War — due to the fact that it was and immediately became densely populated. Essentially, people were drawn from different corners of our country”, - Denis Pushilin said at the 6th Forum of Social Innovations of the Regions.
He admitted that “the departure of many Donetsk residents to the front has complicated the demographic situation in the DNR”, but assured that due to the influx of settlers, “our demographics are growing now, but we need more”.
As previously reported, russian official Andrey Chertkov, dispatched by the kremlin to oversee Donbas, stated that “the population of Donetsk could increase to 1.5 million people”. In this way, he indirectly confirmed russia’s plans for the mass resettlement of residents from russian regions to Donbas. It is precisely for them that the mortgage program for the occupied territories of Ukraine is designed. While in russia real estate can be purchased on mortgage only in the buyer’s region of residence, in the annexed oblasts of Ukraine anyone from russia can build housing on credit. At present, mass construction of commercial housing has begun in Donetsk, which can mainly be afforded by those citizens of russia wishing to settle in the “new territories”. Naturally, Ukrainians who found themselves in the occupied territory and lost their homes and apartments due to russian aggression can also take out a loan to buy housing. But even with a preferential rate (2% per year), they will not be able to purchase housing at the prices offered by developers — starting at $1,000 per square meter.
