"Pro-kremlin propaganda outlets are spreading claims that allegedly russian hackers hacked into the General Staff database of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and obtained information about '1.7 million dead and missing Ukrainian soldiers' during the full-scale invasion of russia into Ukraine. In reality, this is an absolutely absurd fake, since Ukraine, throughout the years of independence, has never had a regular army of 1.7 million people. As of January 2025, according to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, the size of the Ukrainian army was 880,000", - writes the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) on Telegram on August 20.
The President of Ukraine also reported that the losses of russian servicemen are three times higher than the losses of Ukrainian soldiers.
"According to the General Staff, as of 20.08.2025, since 24.02.2022 the russians have lost 1,072,700 killed and wounded, which negates the fabricated figures of ru-propagandists about Ukraine’s losses. The purpose of this fake is to demoralize Ukrainians, to convince the world of the 'exhaustion and ineffectiveness of the Armed Forces of Ukraine', and to weaken its international support", - the CCD also writes.
