On Tuesday, August 19, repatriation took place within the framework of preliminary agreements with the russian federation. 1000 bodies, which, according to the russian side, belong to Ukrainian servicemen, were returned to Ukraine. This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
As reported, among the repatriated are 5 bodies of Ukrainian servicemen who died in captivity. They were on the lists of “seriously wounded and seriously ill” POWs for exchange under the agreements in Istanbul during the second round of negotiations.
“The russian side continues to stall and does not fulfill its commitments. Ukraine insists on the immediate release of all seriously ill and severely wounded prisoners and is fighting for the return of all Ukrainian citizens”, - the statement reads.
The bodies of fallen defenders from the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, and Kursk directions were also returned.
