“The path to peace between russia and Ukraine remains difficult and requires coordinated efforts of the international community. The summit between US President Donald Trump and russian president vladimir putin did not bring tangible results and did not lead to a ceasefire”, - russian media cite the assessment of the summit that appeared in China Daily on August 17.
It is noted that “the just-concluded summit was more symbolic than substantive, but it demonstrated a willingness to keep channels of dialogue open, even though the main disputes between russia, Ukraine, and the West remain unresolved”.
“Liu Le, a research fellow at the National Institute of International Strategy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, stated that given the current tensions in relations between russia and the West, especially the US, Ukraine, and the European Union, it is not surprising that the summit did not bring tangible results. As a result, Liu added, one summit is hardly enough to restore trust between the two sides”, - the Chinese publication writes.
It is reported that Trump will meet Zelensky privately before the general meeting with European leaders.
