A tsunami triggered by a powerful earthquake in Kamchatka on July 30 damaged a pier at a military base near the city of Vilyuchinsk. This is evidenced by satellite images published by The New York Times on August 4, according to DW.

The images show that one of the piers partially split. No other damage is visible. Several vessels, including five submarines, are moored at other nearby piers. There is also no sign of elevated radiation levels, notes NYT. The “Vilyuchinsk” base hosts most of the nuclear submarines of russia’s Pacific Fleet.

As reported, on July 30 Kamchatka experienced the strongest earthquake since 1952, with a magnitude of 8.8. It triggered a tsunami with wave heights reaching 10–15 meters. Additionally, the Krasheninnikov volcano awakened for the first time in 600 years.
