The ban on real estate transactions by citizens of russia and Belarus came into effect on July 15, 2025, by government decree, according to Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen on X.
“This is an important reform that was delayed for far too long. I believe the need for this reform existed long before russia’s invasion of Ukraine. For some reason, that necessity wasn’t recognized earlier, and no legislation was initiated. For example, the previous government in 2023 assessed that there was no need for this reform. When I started working in the Ministry of Defense, I saw this as a shortcoming and began preparing the real estate transaction ban about two years ago. I’m very glad this law has finally been adopted and comes into force today. It is aimed at strengthening Finland’s security and preparing for any type of influence...”, - the minister explained.
It was reported earlier that Poland, Finland, and the Baltic states are ready to mine their borders with the russian federation.
