A representative of the Ogre city municipality, Patriks Griva, stated that the mayor of the city, Egils Helmanis, was injured in Ukraine during another volunteer trip — likely in the frontline zone. This was reported by LSM.

Griva said the mayor traveled to Ukraine with a shipment of volunteer aid — vehicles and other essentials for Ukraine’s defenders.

“Such trips have been regularly scheduled for the mayor since 2022, from the very beginning of the war. Every few months, a significant number of vehicles are delivered and transported — this time, about 20”, - Griva noted.

There is no detailed information yet about the circumstances and nature of Helmanis's injury, only that he is in stable condition.

“From what we understand — there was shelling last night, and as a result, he was injured”, - said the municipal representative.

He explained that he still does not know the details or the exact location of the incident because the route was kept secret each time. Griva added that “every such trip involves danger”.
