NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte once again called Ukraine’s path to NATO “irreversible” and warned russia of “devastating” consequences should it decide to attack any member country of the alliance. He made this statement at a press conference ahead of the NATO summit in The Hague on June 23, according to the Telegram channel “DW Glavnoe”.

Rutte recalled that this year, allies have already pledged around €35 billion in security assistance to Kyiv.

The report notes that NATO shortened the working program of the summit in The Hague to a single 2.5-hour session to avoid the “premature departure” of U.S. President Donald Trump, who had previously abruptly ended his participation in the G7 meeting in Kananaskis, Canada.

As former NATO Deputy Secretary General Jamie Shea told DW, “It’s important for Trump to be there and to hear about all the good things NATO is currently doing that benefit America’s security, not just Europe’s.”

As reported, the NATO Secretary General previously stated that russia could attack the Alliance within the next five years.
