U.S. President Donald Trump said this to journalists at the G7 summit in Canada, reports Suspilne.

“I’m waiting to see whether an agreement will be signed”, - Trump said.

When asked by a journalist whether the U.S. supports Europe’s call for new sanctions, Trump replied: “Europe is talking about it, but they haven’t done anything yet. We’ll see if they do”.

When asked why the United States is not imposing sanctions on its own already, he said: “Because I’m waiting to see whether an agreement will be reached”.

He also added that sanctions are costly for the United States.

“And don’t forget, sanctions cost us a lot of money. When I impose sanctions on a country, it costs the U.S. a lot of money—huge sums. It’s not just signing a document. We’re talking about billions and billions of dollars. Sanctions are not that simple. It’s not a one-way street”, - Trump emphasized.

Earlier, Trump said that russia’s removal from the “Group of Eight” in 2014 was “a big mistake”, and that if it hadn’t happened, there would be no war in Ukraine.
