As reported by the Telegram channel “Suspilne Novyny”, on June 2, Ukraine's Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov held a briefing on the results of the second round of negotiations between Ukraine and russia in Istanbul.
The minister stated the following:
- The Ukrainian side received a “memorandum” from the russian side, and the team will have a week to review it. After that, the sides will coordinate their next steps.
- Kyiv handed over to moscow a list of several hundred children whom russia illegally deported/relocated from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
- Regarding the release of prisoners of war: the sides agreed to focus on three categories in the “all for all” format. The first — seriously ill and severely wounded; the second — young soldiers aged 18 to 25; the third — the bodies of fallen soldiers in the format of “6000 for 6000”.
According to Umerov, Ukraine is convinced that the key issues “can only be resolved at the level of leaders”. He added that the involvement of other world leaders, in particular Donald Trump, is not ruled out.
Ukraine proposed to russia that the next meeting be held this month: June 20–30. “This is extremely important for making progress in the negotiation process”.
As previously reported, Zelensky announced the end of negotiations between Ukraine and russia. A new exchange is being prepared.
