This was reported with reference to the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Vasyl Maliuk, on June 2.
According to the report, the drone strikes hit 41 aircraft, including the A-50, Tu-95, Tu-22M3, and Tu-160.
“The destruction of enemy bombers is a task given to us by the President of Ukraine, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Volodymyr Zelensky. He personally oversaw the course of the special operation, which was prepared by the employees of the Security Service. The enemy bombed our country almost every night from these aircraft, and today they’ve felt firsthand that ‘retribution is inevitable’. The SBU is doing and will continue to do everything possible to protect Ukraine and stop russian attacks”, - said Vasyl Maliuk.
The head of the SBU led the working group that prepared the “Spider’s Web ” special operation for more than a year and a half.
As a result, SBU drones struck targets at four military airfields of the russian federation – “Bielaya”, “Dyagilevo”, “Olenya” and “Ivanovo”. And thanks to the plan, they managed to simultaneously hit the largest number of enemy aircraft.
“In total, this strike hit 34% of russia’s strategic cruise missile carriers at key deployment airfields. It wasn’t just a crushing blow to enemy aviation but a serious slap to the power and terrorist nature of the russian federation”, - noted Vasyl Maliuk.
The estimated value of the destroyed strategic aviation reaches more than USD 7 billion.
According to Vasyl Maliuk, the operation was conducted simultaneously across three time zones and was extremely complex logistically.
First, the SBU transported FPV drones into russia, and later – mobile wooden cabins. Once inside russian territory, the drones were hidden under the roofs of the cabins, which were mounted on cargo trucks. At the right moment, the roofs were remotely opened, and the drones flew out to strike their assigned targets – russian bombers.
“In accordance with the laws and customs of war, we struck absolutely legitimate targets – military airfields and aviation used to bomb our peaceful cities. Therefore, on our side, this is real demilitarization of the russian federation, because we are destroying strictly military objectives. And our strikes will continue for as long as russia terrorizes Ukrainians with missiles and Shahed drones”, - Maliuk emphasized.
He thanked all the SBU personnel involved in this historic special operation, stressing that all participants have long since returned to Ukraine.
“The enemy thought it could bomb Ukraine with impunity and endlessly kill Ukrainians. But that’s not the case. We will respond to russian terror and destroy the enemy everywhere – at sea, in the air, and on land. And if necessary – we’ll dig them out from underground”, - the SBU head stated.
