Ukraine’s Minister of Defense and head of the Ukrainian delegation in negotiations with the russians, Rustem Umerov, handed the russian side a document outlining Ukraine’s vision for a ceasefire. He wrote about this on Facebook.
According to him, the russian side had promised to deliver their own “memorandum” right after the major prisoner exchange that followed the negotiations in Istanbul. However, instead, russia “tried to stall the process”.
Even though the russians claimed they had finished their document, they are still delaying its delivery, Umerov said. Meanwhile, Ukraine has already handed its vision for a ceasefire to the head of the russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky.
“We are not against meeting with the russians and are awaiting their ‘memorandum’ so the meeting isn’t pointless and can genuinely bring the war closer to an end. The russian side still has at least four days before the departure to hand us their document for review”, - he added, urging the russians “to stop trying to make the meeting destructive”.
Earlier, russia has proposed a second round of negotiations with Ukraine on Monday, June 2, in Istanbul.
