Putin's actions show that the situation is not yet ripe for real negotiations – military expert Serhiy Hrabskiy
Despite the efforts of individual world leaders and diplomats to initiate peace talks, active hostilities continue on the front, and the situation does not indicate that the sides are ready for a ceasefire. This was stated in an interview with OstroV by military expert, retired colonel of the AFU Serhiy Hrabskiy.
"I'm irritated by all this absolutely meaningless, baseless, and unviable talk of ceasefires and peace. Nothing will happen. In order to talk about any negotiations or ceasefires, we have to talk about real things. And in fact, there is no basis to speak of any realistic truce. All this talk about an imminent ceasefire – it's just empty words", - he said.
According to him, putin with his actions, and Ukraine with its resistance, show that the situation is not yet ready for negotiations.
"Moreover – for us, peace talks, as practice shows, can be fatally dangerous, because putin uses any pauses in the war to his own advantage", - Serhiy Hrabskiy emphasized.
The military expert believes that none of the objective conditions are currently present for the conflict to move into a peaceful phase: both sides retain the ability to conduct military operations, the internal situation has not undergone critical upheaval, and russian society is not resisting the war.
"For example, this concerns new sanctions against russia, which should have been introduced back on May 12, but European leaders decided to wait for the talks in Istanbul. And every day without sanctions is billions of dollars flowing into the occupiers' budget, into the coffers of the kremlin regime. This is a very specific, real price we all pay for delay. With these funds, putin produces weapons, buys necessary components, and strikes our territory", - Hrabskiy emphasized.
