"At the level of heads of state and government, we agreed that we must now exhaust all possibilities. We're talking about further sanctions in the energy sector, the banking sector, new steps regarding assets, and sanctions against individuals. We are working on this with our European partners", - said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in an interview with ZEIT, published on May 15.
Merz noted that the European Union countries have agreed to exhaust all options to increase pressure on russia due to its unwillingness to cease hostilities.
When asked about the possibility of confiscating frozen russian assets, he noted that this issue is currently being studied.
