The European Commission intends to maintain sanctions pressure on russia, so after the adoption of the next, 17th package of sanctions, work will begin on the 18th package of EU sanctions against the russian federation. This was stated by Vice-President of the European Commission and EU Commissioner for Economy Valdis Dombrovskis, according to European Pravda.

"From the side of the European Commission, we are certainly ready to continue exerting pressure on russia, including working on new sanctions", - said Valdis Dombrovskis in response to a question about whether the EU would prepare an 18th package of sanctions.

Speaking about possible areas where the EU could increase sanctions pressure on the russian federation, the commissioner reminded that "the main source of russia's income is the export of fossil fuels".

According to the publication, the 17th package of sanctions against russia may be adopted at the EU Foreign Affairs Council on May 20.
