Military ruse and fear of drones over Red Square: Vladyslav Selezniov on putin’s three-day “truce”
The latest “truce” announced by putin from May 8 to 11 does not demonstrate his desire for peace; it will be used for his own interests. This was stated in a comment to OstroV by former spokesperson of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, military expert Vladyslav Selezniov.
“I think this is purely a military ruse. Let’s recall the truce announced on April 20, which lasted 30 hours. During that time, the enemy had the opportunity to restore their fortifications, bring in military supplies, and conduct rotation. And now we are facing certain problems in the Toretsk and Pokrovsk directions. The enemy is advancing toward Kostiantynivka, and I believe part of that success is due to the truce, when the enemy had the opportunity to amass the necessary forces and resources there”, - he said.
Another important factor that the russian dictator was guided by, according to Vladyslav Selezniov, is avoiding strikes on Red Square on May 9 by Ukrainian drones or missiles.
“Although, in my opinion, that’s complete nonsense—we weren’t planning such actions, because leaders from several dozen countries around the world will be in moscow. That’s just putin’s paranoia”, - noted the military expert.
According to him, the third message of this truce is political.
“Putin wants to show Trump that he is looking for ways to peace. Although, again, what is stopping him from starting the truce immediately instead of choosing that time frame? Nothing. That’s why I think there’s little reason to count on putin’s desire for peace. He will use any ‘truce’ solely for his own benefit—to accumulate resources, regroup, and continue pressuring Ukrainian defense”, - emphasized the expert.
