"The Main Intelligence Directorate (MID) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine draws the attention of the media and the public to the fact that the alleged quote from the head of MID at a classified, closed session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, circulated by the media, does not correspond to reality", - the agency reported on its Telegram channel on January 27.

The MID urged all media representatives not to spread rumors, unverified, or officially unconfirmed information, especially regarding matters of defense in the war. They noted, "...which certain political figures, unfortunately, may distort for their own interests, using journalists for this purpose".

This response comes after a report earlier the same day, January 27, by Ukrainska Pravda, citing an anonymous source. The report claimed that parliamentary and faction leaders had recently invited the Defense Forces' command to a closed session to understand the real situation in the war. During the meeting, Budanov allegedly stated, "If there are no serious negotiations by summer, very dangerous processes could begin for the very existence of Ukraine".

"We emphasize that the dissemination of any reports allegedly discussing official meetings classified as secret, involving the state's military-political leadership, harms state security and is exploited by the enemy for their interests. Ukraine continues its armed struggle for independence – the war with russia persists. The informational dimension of the war also holds critical importance. We remind everyone of the martial law in effect across our entire state", - the MID added.

Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), also commented on the situation.

"I find it very strange that Members of Parliament disclose who said what during CLOSED classified sessions related to national security. Moreover, twisting words for the media. But this isn’t just about distorting the words of MID head Kyrylo Budanov; it’s about the broader issue of MPs leaking information from a closed session. This is some kind of total irresponsibility bordering on a lack of common sense. MPs, start using your brains already", - Kovalenko wrote on Telegram on January 27.
