As a result of the full-scale russian invasion, over 15 million residents of Ukraine require humanitarian assistance. This was stated by UN Secretary-General António Guterres during a speech at a UN Security Council meeting in New York, according to Ukrinform.
"Despite incredible challenges, the UN continues its involvement, maintaining the largest international presence in Ukraine. This year alone, together with partners, we have provided lifesaving assistance to more than 6.2 million people. However, we need the support of the international community. Fifteen million Ukrainians require humanitarian aid, more than half of them women and children", - he said.
According to Guterres, the war has forced about 10 million people in Ukraine to leave their homes. "In two and a half years of full-scale invasion, over 11,000 civilians have been killed", - emphasized the UN Secretary-General.
He also added that "as winter approaches, less than half of our Humanitarian Response Fund has been financed". In this regard, Guterres called on donors "to help us carry out this crucial work on the ground".
As reported, the 79th session of the UN General Assembly is taking place in New York. The theme of the current high-level debates is "Leaving no one behind: United efforts for peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations".
