Russian occupiers have inflicted UAH 17 billion worth of damage on the ecosystem of the Luhansk oblast as of June 2024. This was reported to OstroV by the head of the Luhansk Oblast Military Administration, Artem Lysohor.

"Currently, UAH 17 billion UAH in material damage to the region's ecosystem has already been calculated", - Lysohor said.

According to him, monitoring the environmental situation to assess the damage is not difficult.

"In addition to satellite imagery and our UAVs, there is information from the military and intelligence that allows us to assess the situation, as well as data from monitoring open occupation sources. Therefore, it is not difficult for environmental specialists to assess the scale of the catastrophe. However, of course, all this data will be verified and clarified on-site after the de-occupation of our territories", - the head of the administration noted.

He clarified that in the area occupied since 2014, the most significant environmental problem is the rise of mine waters. In the territories where active combat operations have taken place and are ongoing since the full-scale invasion, the ecosystem is almost entirely destroyed.
