French President Emmanuel Macron has dissolved the National Assembly. He announced this decision in a video address.
The dissolution decision was made after Macron's party, "Renaissance", suffered a crushing defeat in the European Parliament elections, according to exit polls, losing by a significant margin to the far-right "National Rally".
Macron has scheduled snap elections for June 30, with the second round set to take place on July 7.
