The russian over-the-horizon radar "Konteiner" in Mordovia was disabled on April 17 after an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This was reported by the Telegram channel "VCHK-OGPU" on April 18, citing its sources.
"Yesterday, UAVs attacked the over-the-horizon radar "Konteiner" located in Kovylkino, Mordovia. According to our sources, the attack was successful, and now the Russian over-the-horizon station is out of order", - the statement said.
It is noted that this is the only OTH radar of its kind capable of detecting aerodynamic targets at distances of up to 3000 km by reflecting the radar signal from the ionosphere.
"The loss of the radar will deprive the Russian air defense of reconnaissance information and the ability to early detect tactical and strike aviation. It will be extremely difficult to fill the gap, as the factory where the "Konteiner" was produced is almost closed, and the research institute developing long-range radar - NIIDAR - has ceased to exist", - the statement also said.
