The russian army has seized a significant portion of the completely destroyed town of Marinka in the Donetsk oblast, according to British intelligence reported by European Pravda on December 5.
As stated in the summary, the occupying russian army now controls the majority of the built-up area, while the Ukrainian Armed Forces still maintain control over parts of the territory on the western outskirts of the city.
In intelligence reports, it was reminded that Marinka has been a front-line town since 2014, and before the russian invasion of Ukraine, it was home to 9,000 people.
Currently, the city has been reduced to ruins, as evidenced by drone footage.
"The resumption of russian actions in Marinka is part of russia's autumn offensive, the priority of which is to expand russia's control over the remaining parts of the Donetsk oblast. It is quite likely that this is still one of the kremlin's main military objectives", - noted the British Ministry of Defense.
The department emphasized that the capture of Marinka remains one of the kremlin's goals in the war against Ukraine.
As reported, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled 68 attacks by occupiers, with the most intense clashes occurring near Avdiivka and Marinka.
