Serbian president Aleksandar Vučić issued a threat that Ukraine will "lose everything" if it recognizes Kosovo's independence. Vučić made this statement during a press conference, as reported by the RTRS television channel on August 9th.
"Ukraine is a friendly country to us. I believe Zelensky is smarter than Merezhko. Because just imagine: if Ukraine recognizes Kosovo's independence, it will lose everything in a single day", - Vučić stated.
It is noted that his reaction is related to an appeal to the governments of Western states to reconsider their policies towards Belgrade and Pristina. This appeal was also signed by Ukrainian deputy Oleksandr Merezhko.
Vučić added that he will always stand for a "libertarian approach" and Serbia's right to make its own decisions.
It is clarified that the letter, signed by the heads of ten parliamentary committees on foreign affairs and more than half a hundred deputies from different parliaments, calls for increased pressure on Serbia and a departure from attempts to balance relations with it and Kosovo. The initiator of the letter was British MP Alicia Kearns. It is known that Ukraine currently does not officially recognize Kosovo's independence.
Earlier, it was reported that Serbia and Kosovo agreed on an EU plan for normalizing relations.
