New sanctions against russia should be imposed on its nuclear industry because of the shelling of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Volodymyr Zelensky stated this in a video message dated August 8.

The president considers the current level of reaction to the actions of the russians by the international community to be insufficient.

"Russia will not reckon with words and concerns. New sanctions are needed against the terrorist state and the entire russian nuclear industry for creating a threat of a nuclear catastrophe", - Zelensky said.

The president separately noted that the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, and the catastrophe there will surpass Chornobyl in its consequences.

"The Chornobyl disaster is an explosion in one reactor. The Zaporizhzhia NPP is six power units", - Zelensky noted.

Let us remind you that earlier, Energoatom reported that the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was operating with the risk of security violations after the shelling.
