President Volodymyr Zelensky proposes to abolish conscription for military service from 2024. This is said in his decree No.36/2022 "On high priority measures to strengthen the national defense capability, increase the attractiveness of military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the gradual transition to the basics of a professional army".

"In order to ensure the state sovereignty… I order the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine… to prepare and submit to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine a bill on the introduction of a model of intensive military training system as a possible alternative form of military service and termination of the conscription of citizens of Ukraine for military service from January 1, 2024", - the text of the Decree says.

In addition, between 2022 and 2025 it is planned to gradually increase the number of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by 100 000 people "to increase the defense capability of the state".

As previously reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Verkhovna Rada signed a decree on strengthening the defense capability of Ukraine and the attractiveness of military service.
