European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell has named three principles that Russia previously accepted and now calls into question. This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to the blog of the European diplomat.

"The first one (principle - ed.) is the right of each state to freely choose which international organization to belong to or not to belong to, and to be a party to treaties or alliances, as recognized by the Charter of Paris", - Borrell wrote.

According to him, the second and third principles are the non-use of force and respect for the territorial integrity of all states.

"Russia is violating these three fundamental principles in Ukraine, as it has already done in Georgia. And Russia not only asserts, but accompanies this with growing military pressure on the Ukrainian border, threatening Kyiv with a new intervention, if its demands are not fully met", - the diplomat noted.

Borrell stressed that Russia also wants to portray the European Union as "outdated".

"The Russian Federation also seeks to recognize that it has a decisive influence on Ukraine and Belarus, not to mention Central Asia", - Borrell said.

As previously reported, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that no decisions regarding European security, including the response to the fact of Russian aggression against Ukraine, would be made without the direct participation of the European Union.
