The European Union does not recognize the results of local Russian "election" held on September 8 in the occupied Crimean peninsula. The corresponding statement by the EU spokesperson was posted on the website of the European External Action Service, - Ukrinform reports.

"The European Union does not recognise the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol by the Russian Federation, and continues to condemn this violation of international law. Therefore, the European Union does not recognise the holding of elections in the Crimean peninsula. Anybody elected in the Crimean peninsula claiming to "represent" the populations of Crimea and Sevastopol will not be recognised as representatives of those territories, which are Ukrainian", - the statement says.

The spokesperson emphasized that the European Union remains adamant in supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

As previously reported, local election was held in the Russian Federation on September 8, including in the illegally annexed Crimea and Sevastopol.
