Odesa region's prosecutor Oleh Zhuchenko has announced that Ukrainian prosecutors together with SBU Security Service officers in Odesa region have detained a criminal gang that planned the abduction and mutilation of Oleksiy Honcharenko, a member of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc parliamentary faction, - UNIAN reports.
Answering the question whether he knows where Honcharenko is at the moment, the prosecutor said: "Yes, he is in a safe place and is giving evidence as a victim."
Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko announced Oleksiy Honcharenko's abduction by a group of separatists for torture earlier on Thursday. Chairman of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc parliamentary faction Ihor Hryniv said that Honcharenko was kidnapped in Odesa in broad daylight. Hryniv also called on law enforcement authorities to urgently establish "a special headquarters for such crisis situation".
