On the evening of September 5 in moscow, U.S. special envoys Stephen Witkoff and Jared Kushner discussed “concrete plans” to end the war in Ukraine with putin. A source in Washington told the media, the “DW Glavnoe” Telegram channel reported on the morning of September 6.
According to the source, plans for further steps are to be made public “in the coming weeks”. The source added that “U.S. ambassadors are looking forward to equally productive meetings to be held in Ukraine”.
The Kremlin described putin’s talks with Witkoff and Kushner as “extremely frank”. The American delegation presented “several ideas” for ending the war, russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said.
“The Moscow Times” Telegram channel reports that during talks with Trump’s envoys, putin said that his army was “successfully advancing” in Ukraine and expressed confidence that he would achieve the goals of the “special military operation”.
According to Ushakov, putin once again stated the need to “eliminate all the root causes of the conflict”, while Kushner and Witkoff “seriously prepared for the trip”. “They not only expressed the traditional interest in ending the hostilities as soon as possible, but also formulated a number of considerations regarding possible ways to resolve the conflict”, - Ushakov added.
A source close to the kremlin told Reuters that despite war fatigue in society, the fuel crisis, difficulties in the economy, and Ukrainian strikes deep inside russia, putin is not ready to make concessions: he still wants to seize more Ukrainian territory.
“There is no chance of reaching an agreement along the frontline until putin finishes seizing the remaining part of the Donetsk oblast”, - the kremlin source explained. According to him, putin believes this will happen by the end of the year, as this is what his commanders report to him.
